The second Town Hall was constructed in 1875 on the site of the original Town Hall that had been built in 1825. The following picture of the second Town Hall was taken in the year 1918, just a few months before the fire. These local newspaper articles provide a few different perspectives on the fire. The Lowell Sun states "most people believe the fire was started, either accidentally or otherwise, by strangers who crawled inside the church and started a fire in the gas stove". Interestingly the newspaper articles briefly mention the Influenza epidemic which had gripped the country and state that there had been no church services for two weeks. The articles actually mention the names of several residents that are ill, and in later newspaper editions we found they had provided an update stating that they were feeling much better.
