The Tewksbury Historical Society will feature a biography about General Ames on Thursday, April 29, 2004 starting at 7:00pm at the Tewksbury Town Library Auditorium.  Executive Board Member and newly elected School Committee Member, Keith Rauseo will talk about General Ames and his life.  Ames came to Tewksbury late in life; he was a Civil War General; and he was a Governor in the South after the war.  Several sites in Tewksbury bear his name.

The Tewksbury Historical Society has a Historical Store.  Several books about Tewksbury will be carried as soon as they are reprinted.  These were books written by townspeople.  Gerry O'Reilly and Georgia Ruckledge have both donated their manuscripts for our archives.  Some school children have written a book for children about Tewksbury history.  A commercially produced book about Ann Sullivan and Helen Keller will also be in stock.  The most exciting book is being written and produced by the Society itself.  It will feature pictures and stories about Tewksbury.  Many people have donated pictures, stories, and artifacts about Tewksbury for the book and the Society's archives.

Many of these donations are important and help to preserve our history while being used by the public for future presentations or shows.  Keith Rauseo is a perfect example of a person how has spent the time researching our history for a presentation.  Georgia Ruckledge, Gerry O'Rielly, Eugene Winter, and Dave Marcus have all given presentations by using history that has been saved, preserved, indexed, and shared by people in the community, libraries, museums, and the society itself.  New residents to Tewksbury, people who do not live in Tewksbury, and natives to Tewksbury are all welcome to join the Society.  General Ames was not native to Tewksbury and the Society President, Dave Marcus is a "carpet-bagger" as well.  We are all just proud of Tewksbury's rich history and think it is worth preserving and presenting to future generations.

Mr. Rauseo's presentation is the fourth in a series of presentations this winter/spring.  The Historical Society is made up of people who want to preserve and celebrate Tewksbury History.  Membership is open to everyone and applications are accepted at every membership meeting.  The Society has a website at www.tewksburyhistoricalsociety.org and for more information, people may call 978-863-9989, or email the Society at tewksburyhistorical@comcast.net

The next presentation will be at the Tewksbury Historical Society's Annual Meeting in June.
