08/26/2004 On June 24, 2004, Town Historian and Tewksbury Historical Society Board Member Warren Carey hosted a presentation about the Tewksbury State Hospital and its rich history.   The ninety minute video is available for download in Windows Media Format.

04/17/2004 Added image and story of the first uniformed baseball team in Tewksbury, the Almonts, written by Harold J. Patten. 
 
03/30/2004 Added a wonderful short story by local writer Ed Lisay, entitled "Once a Year".

02/18/2004 Added "Anne Sullivan Macy - The Story Behind Helen Keller".  Anne Sullivan lived at the Tewksbury Almshouse and this book documents tragic events that took place while she was there.

02/11/2004 Added "The Ice Storm of November, 1921".  This booklet was printed by the Lowell Electric Light Corporation in response to a disastrous ice storm that left people without power for over a month.

01/25/2004 Created a new section entitled "Wamesit Drive-In" and added contributed items and images from our archives.
 
01/24/2004 I created a new section on the website for our collection of short stories about growing up in and around Tewksbury.   Stories will be added as time permits.

Added a short story written by Mr. Rick Nolin entitled "Gas".
 
01/23/2004 Added "Envelope mailed on August 9, 1861 with Tewksbury USPS hand cancellation". 
 
01/22/2004 Added "Tewksbury Historical Society Newsletter, December 2003". 
 
01/19/2004 Added "Gov. Butler's Insults to Women".  This Anti-Butler document was printed on July 14, 1883 and is a response to comments made by Governor Butler in his arguments before the Tewksbury Investigation Committee

Updated the Historical Society contact information to include the names of our current Executive Council Officers and Board Members.
 
01/18/2004 Added "Argument before the Tewksbury Investigation Committee by Governor Benjamin F. Butler.  July 15, 1883".   This book was printed by the Democratic Central Committee in 1883 on behalf of Governor Butler.   To create public support for their political position they intentionally designed the book to be disturbing.   The book discusses alleged activities at the Tewksbury State Almshouse that included tanning of human hides, selling of dead bodies and horrific medical procedures out of the dark ages.  


Added "Capt. John Trull, Minuteman".  This short story provides a look into what happened in Tewksbury on the same night that Paul Revere made his famous midnight ride.   This nice short story was written by Capt. Larz Neilson and was found in the archives of the Tewksbury Library History Room.
 
01/18/2004 Created a new section for the "Aunt Hannah Chandler Scrapbook Collection".   The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings and other local items that she saved between approximately 1900 and the mid 1920s.   The following articles have been added to our website:

"Tewksbury High School Building Dedication" program from events held on Friday September 6th, 1935.

"George D. Foristall, Retiring Postmaster of Tewksbury".   This newspaper article from 1914 announces the retirement of Eighty One Year Old Tewksbury Postmaster George D. Foristall. 

"Workmen find cornerstone from Ancient School Building in Cemetery".   This newspaper article from sometime around 1915 announces the rediscovery of an old School Building cornerstone in the Tewksbury Cemetery.  

"First Military Wedding in Town History".   This newspaper article from sometime around 1915 describes the wedding ceremony between Tewksbury residents Captain Harold J. Patten and Miss Josephine N. Millet.

"Four children drown at Round Pond".   This newspaper article from 1921 somberly reports the tragic drowning deaths of four local children in Round Pond.

01/17/2004 Added "Militia of Massachusetts Company Orders" from Tewksbury's Commanding Officer Zephariah Clark to Company Officer Jason Phelps instructing the Tewksbury Militia to appear for military duty and inspection at 1:00pm on Tuesday the fifth day of May, 1829

01/16/2004 The Event Calendar has just been updated with the meetings and programs that we will be holding over the next few months.   Additional events being planned for the spring and summertime will be added here once our plans are finalized!

12/12/2003 Added "Bug at Tewksbury".  This Lowell Sun article from October 14, 1918 reports on a fire that destroyed both the Congregational Church and the Town Hall in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 13th, 1918.
